Does not flower. Plant in light or dappled shade. HxS 45x45cm
The Painted Lady Fern has silvery metallic fronds on dark purple stems. It is a compact fern which is slow growing and enjoys leaf mould in a moist soil. Deciduous in habit it is tolerant of sun for part of the day. This Japanese form has very distinctive fronds, offering a complete contrast to many of our native species. PPA (Perennial Plant Association) Plant of the Year 2004. Organically grown in peat free compost. Hardiness rating H5. Pot size; 1.5 litre.
Care & Maintenance.
Dies back in autumn and the old fronds are best left on the plant to protect it over the winter. Remove the fronds in early spring. We find it is best propagated by careful division in spring.
