Iris versicolor, or Blue Flag Iris, is the native American water iris and is found in lowland wet areas. The blue flowers, with their yellow and white markings, are 10cm/3in across and held on tall stems. It is a robust Iris, offering beautiful blue flowers, growing best in full sun or partial shade in a heavy, rich moist soil. Ideal as a bog plant, it is equally effective as a marginal or waterside plant. Planting depth in water 8cm/3” (top of pot to water surface). Care & Maintenance.
Remove old foliage in spring and split plants every three or four years to maintain vigour. They are best divided after flowering and the rhizome should be planted on or near the soil surface. Alternatively collect and sow seed.
