Flowers: May-June. Plant in full shade. HxS 10x30cm
Tolerant of dry shade once established, this rare native plant has round, glossy evergreen leaves. Small unobtrusive reddish-brown flowers are found low down at the base of the plant in late spring. The roots smell of ginger and the leaves appear quite oily in hot weather. Rubbing the foliage gives a distinct gingery smell in hot temperatures. Excellent groundcover in a shady area. Edible if you dare! Hardiness rating H6. Pot size 1.5 litre.
Care & Maintenance
Requires little or no maintenance. Seldom sets seed (probably why it is rare). Very careful division in early spring is the best way to propagate.
