Pontederia cordata is a marginal aquatic perennial or a bog plant. It forms good clumps of erect, lance-shaped, bright green leaves (up to 18cm/9in in length), producing dense erect spikes of tubular deep blue flowers in late summer. This plant gives interesting foliage and valuable late colour for waterside locations, or as a marginal in the pond itself. Hardiness rating H5. Pot size 1 litre.
Care & Maintenance.
Cut back in late autumn, but only divide in spring. It can be seed raised.
