Japanese Blood Grass is the most brilliantly coloured of the red grasses, with a red pigment which develops through the season, being most intense in late summer and autumn, when the slivery flower panicles appear. It is spectacular when well placed. Introduced from Japan, via the USA, by Kurt Bleumel, it prefers a moist but well drained soil. Grown organically in peat free compost. Hardiness zone H4. Pot size 1.5 litre.
Care & Maintenance.
Spilt every three to four years to maintain vigour. H4 hardiness so mulch the crown if you live in a cold area. Cut back hard in spring, which is also the best time to split and divide.
